One Stop Shop

My comprehensive “360” approach to your family photos ranges from digitization to long-term organization, storage and everything in between. With more than a decade of experience Photoshopping images and working with labs, I diligently stay abreast of changing digital photo trends.  As a result, my clients always get the most up-to-date services available.

Negative Scanning - Thanks to digital, film negatives are quickly becoming obsolete. It’s only going to get more expensive over time to have your old negatives scanned, as the equipment to do so becomes more of a specialty. Why wait? I can fit 40 frames on a CD. If you want one frame from a cut strip of negatives the whole strip must be scanned and will be included in the total of 40/per CD. How big you would want the image to be when it is printed will affect the price. Average scanned size will reproduce an 8x10 print. Basic color balancing can be included in the estimated price.

Print Scanning - The price to scan prints is dependent upon how big you want the image to print.  The larger the size, the more it costs. Basic color balancing is included in this set price. All images must be taken out of albums. If there is a risk of the image tearing or it is stuck to glass in a frame, I can make a case-by-case call if I will be able to scan the image.

Digitally Retouching - With scanning there can be dust marring the image, which is more common of images that haven’t been stored in albums or kept covered. Clean up of dust, minor scratches & marks on damaged prints can be removed digitally.

Organize Negatives, Prints & CDs -

I don’t recommend getting rid of negatives or prints once they are digitized. I can organizenegatives/prints/CDs of images into archival boxes & CD books for storage and quicker access to the “hard copy” of your images.

Create & Organize Digital Archive

Once all of your images are digital I can set up a system for current digital images as well as future image files that will make it easier for you to find your images more quickly.

Some of your images may be copyrighted images which with out a release from the studio or photographer I can not scan/duplicated them under the Federal Copyright law. Please see the page on Copyright & Liability for details.

How Rates/Estimates Are Determined

I provide an estimate after I establish the scope of the project from initial conversations via email, phone or skype. Below  is how I base my estimations. For questions or an estimate please email me:pattie.mcnab@gmail.com

Negative Scanning

How large the file size you want determines the main cost of negative scanning. Least costly sizes range from around 3 MB to 7 MB files, enough to print the same size photo as the original and often can be blown up to an 8x10. After understanding your long-term wishes for your digital archive we can discuss options that will affect pricing of the estimate. BW negatives tend to need more clean up work therefore generally cost more.

Print Scanning

Scanning prints are more flexible in pricing, as there are more options in file size & retouching work. Yet the size of the file also is a factor in cost and time.

Digital Retouching/Color Correction

I will classify photo retouching & color corrections into 3 different rates:

Tier 1 - Most images. Cleaning of major dust marks & basic color corrects (less that 15 mins work on single image)

Tier 11 - Images that have a lot of dust, scratches or slightly damaged. (need same thing as tier 1 about cleaning) (between 15-40 mins work on single images)

Tier 111 - Archival Restoration. Most of these images will probably be older or severely physically damaged.(again describe process as in tier 1) (more than 40 mins work on single image)

Organize Negatives, Prints & CDs

This rate will be based on how your negatives and prints are currently organized. No need to worry, I’ve tackled stacks and stacks and turned them into order. Cost of archival boxes will be added to final bill.

Create & Organize Digital Archive

This rate will be based on how your files are organized. For example, are they in folders or loose scans? etc.  The cost of CD books will be added to final bill.

After the price is accepted, contract signed and the project is understood, I require a payment of 50% of the estimate prior to beginning the project. The remaining 50% or balance is due upon completion. Payment is accepted in cashier’s check, money order format or via PayPal online. I can also work on your project in phases so no need to feel like you have to have it all done at once.

I will provide an estimate range as some images may take less time or more time than expected once I start working on them. Deposit of 50% of estimate is due upon receiving photos to be worked on. For larger projects I can do estimates in phases & payment can be exchanged per phase.

** If images/prints/negatives need to be mailed I will add in the shipping costs for returning to final bill.
